The Unexpected Art of Heat Magazine

I’m really intrigued by the photography exhibition on at the Brunswick Gallery from 27^th November – 10^th December, which comprises a selection of celebrity portraits photographer Ellis Parrinder has taken for Heat magazine. Today’s Observer explains.

I tend to think of Heat magazine – which I almost never buy, but would of course devour in a doctor’s waiting room – as full of paparazzi shots of celebs without make-up on, or, heaven forbid, sweating. So I find it very interesting that they regularly commission a bit of critical visual commentary on the celebrity machine – like this picture of Dermot O’Leary taken to coincide with him getting the X-Factor gig.

Judging further from the works shown in the Observer and on Parrinder’s website there is actually some rather witty work going on; the picture of Jordan selling melons is a classic! Its just wonderfully traditional satire and a homage to Punch?! OMG! Like, who knew?!
