“The annual Craft Curators Forum, a networking and discussion event from the Crafts Council, was held in London 23-24 September. It grappled with the theme ‘Curating, Craft and New Technologies’. Day one’s talks addresses the collection and display of technological crafts. Ele Carpenter shared experiences of curating craft and technology through her internationally exhibited Open Source Embroidery project – where hand-stitching meets HT ML. Other speakers included Louise Shannon, co-curator of V&A’s popular exhibition of digital and interactive design (2009-2010) Decode, and Fo Wilson, curator of ‘The New Materiality: Digital Dialogues at the Boundaries of Contemporary Craft’, (Fuller Craft Museum, Massachusetts, 2011). Day two provided a tour of Metropolitan Works (one of the UK’s leading centres for the research, prototyping and manufacture of digital products) hosted by practitioners Michael Eden and Gary Alson, who indicated how the centre supports their work.” read more.
